FAST-PACED AND FUN WITH A BIG HEART

MIDDLE LIFE is a throwback romantic comedy feature film from Toronto

Starring JULY TALK singers Leah Fay Goldstein – Canadian Screen Award-nominated for her starring turn in DIAMOND TONGUES – and Peter Dreimanis, who made his screen debut in Ryan Coogler's SINNERS.

Andie is a perfectionist wedding planner in her mid-thirties and new mother, who has meticulously crafted her life but still feels unfulfilled. Fresh off maternity leave, she saves Ryan, a blue-collar plumber, from a roadside accident. As their paths intertwine over the next year, her craving for change and his newfound perspective on life spark an unexpected connection, leading them to discover that life could be great.

Life could be great.

Life could be great.

Life could be great.

Life could be great.

Life could be great.

The knits, autumn leaves and christmas coziness of When Harry Met Sally, combined with Friendship/Tim Robinson style bits and comedic camera work, with a sprinkle of Palm Springs fun, zany adventures. A great romcom, with a perfect mix of both genres!

Also, the jazzy score was perfect and the cinematography and color grading was beautiful.

The Globe and Mail Feature

Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis are experts at blurring the line between the personal and the professional. As the couple at the core of the Toronto rock group July Talk – Dreimanis is the guitarist with the gravel-throated baritone, Goldstein is the sweeter-voiced singer – the two have long learned to balance the creative highs of marathon studio sessions and the thrill of deafening live performance alongside the sometimes less glamorous duties of managing a household and raising a toddler.

It is turning out to be a banner year for movies in which real-life couples play on-screen duos. After this summer’s horror-comedy Together (starring Alison Brie and her husband Dave Franco), the immensely funny, charming and not at all horrifying new Canadian romcom Middle Life offers its own kind of couple double dip, with Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis – the real-life couple who lead the acclaimed rock group July Talk – starring as an against-all-odds pair.

Watching Middle Life feels like being surrounded by a warm blanket. Full of heartwarming moments, perfect chemistry between its two leads (Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay Goldstein of July Talk), and a nice balance of sidesplitting humour, poignant reflections on life, and quirky charm. Middle Life is one of the best romantic comedies of 2025...
